“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.”— Revelation 2:4–5
The beginning of a relationship, a new job, or a new season of study is often intense—full of passion, dedication, and excitement. In the same way, our first moments with God are usually marked by a deep love and commitment. Sadly, over time, many drift away from that first love.
Today’s verse is a wake-up call. It invites us to return to the love and devotion we once had for Jesus. If you used to spend more time in prayer, in devotion, reading and studying the Bible, if you once found joy in gathering, serving, evangelizing, and growing in faith—this is your moment to come back.
Love again like at the beginning:
Remember where you have fallen — take a moment to reflect and recognize how you drifted away from your first love.Repent — pray and ask for forgiveness, acknowledging that you allowed your relationship with God to grow distant.Do what you did at first — return to those first works with love, dedication, and wholehearted devotion to God.
Prayer:Loving Father, I recognize that I have left my first love for You. Forgive me for allowing our relationship to become secondary and for drifting away. Today, I choose to love You above all else and to love others by serving faithfully each day. Help me not to grow weary, but to remain rooted in my first love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
